Hallowtree Activity Centre and Suffolk CMAT are running a training course for new instructors on artificial climbing walls and towers. The course is designed for novice instructors to be trained and to gain a climbing and abseiling permit under the P.O.R Adventurous Activities Permit Scheme.

The initial training will commence on Friday 5th April 6pm - 10pm (Theory) then Sunday 7th April 9am - 5pm (Practical) (dates corrected from e-mail). This will provide the basic skills to then develop over a six to eight week period to prepare for assessment and to complete the permits.

Gone Home - John Ineson

17/3/24 - Updated with funeral arrangements: Bury St Edmunds Crematorium on 2nd April at 15:00.

This message below received from John's friend Colin Walker, Scouting Historian.

I am very sad indeed to pass on the news of the death of my great friend in Scouting John Ineson.  John was 91 years old. He joined Suffolk Scouting aged 16 remaining in the County for the rest of his life.  He was a  Rover and then a Scout Leader in Bures, Suffolk where he was  one of the  first to arrange for his Group to go to camp on an international air flight. He was an early member of the Scout and Guide Stamp Club becoming its President and very  well known internationally.

He was awarded the Silver Wolf and was an International Commissioner,  very active in the return of Hungary to the Scouting family after the fall of communism. He helped found the Mafeking Museum and was responsible for the campaign to provide a  headstone for the  grave of Sergeant Major Warner Goodyear, the only Mafeking Cadet B-P even named.  (Warner Goodyear appeared on a Mafeking 'Blue' stamp).

John without question had  one of the best and widest collections of Scouting items ever assembled including pottery, stamps, postcards, cigarette cards, Baden-Powell artefacts and letters etc etc  He was a personal friend of many members of the Baden-Powell family and most generous with his time and encouragement to all with a quest for knowledge. Our thoughts are with his wife Diane and family.  He will be most sadly missed.

Transformation

Transformation is going to be a journey to go through together as it comes into being throughout the forthcoming year.  The plans are in place and as with all plans, they need revising and updating and so sometimes the wrong messages get through and misunderstandings occur when things have already changed.

The latest newsletter was a 'Transformation Special' and that set the scene for all of us very well with useful resources to link to.. and now there's another!

The Greater London North Transformation Team have been involved with this for a while and have now produced an extremely useful document with 25 pages of the sort of questions people have.  You will most likely find an answer there for a question you may have.  If not, then please ask!

Link to the Suffolk Transformation page for the latest updates/information.
