Jenny's July 2011 Update
Has it been two months since my last entry? In May, to Herringfleet to visit the Lowestoft District Cub Camp – what a super site. I love a good campfire and I wasn’t disappointed. Lots of activities and great fun. Later on in May the Scout Network took part in a pilot for the HQ Community Challenge, clearing the rubbish from the river bank at Cattewade. No, this isn’t a tribal war dance.

Scout Network Investiture
The County Commissioner recently met with a group of young Scout Network members on a cold, dark, windy night. Worse, this was on Felixstowe beach.

Response to Suffolk inquest
Today the inquest has concluded into the death of Alan Lock, a six year old Beaver Scout from Suffolk who drowned on a Colony activity in 2009. The Coroner recorded an Open Verdict.
Suffolk Scouts are very sorry that this tragic incident occurred. Our prayers are with Alan’s family and friends.
The safety of our young people has always been our number one priority. Half a million young people take part in thousands of Scouting activities safely every week and incidents like this are very rare.
The Scout Association conducted its own internal inquiry after the incident. We have thoroughly reviewed our rules, procedures and training. We have provided additional information on the need to conduct regular headcounts, and to regularly undertake risk assessments. We have also updated our training for leaders on these two matters.
We have listened very carefully to the advice offered by the Coroner and will now consider this in detail to determine how we might be able to further improve our rules and procedures.
December 2010
My goodness, is it the end of another year? I know you will all have been just as busy so I won’t take up a lot of time. I have had a lot of fun attending Carol Services and visiting Groups this month. I would just like to say a Big Thank you to you all for your hard work and dedication in 2010 and to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and lots of happy Scouting in 2011.
