I HOPE you have all had a relaxing summer break. On the camps I visited everyone was having a super time. The Wet Weekend was a great success with more Troops camping this year and taking advantage of the fantastic water activities on offer.

I visited NORJAM and was pleased to see many Suffolk Troops and Units camping. It really was a super event. High winds and rain washed away some of the tents but it didn’t dampen the enthusiasiasm.

Next year we have the Jamboree in Japan, the Explorer Belt in Finland, the CMAT Expedition to Scotland and the County Scout Camp in Pembrokeshire. We will soon be starting the countdown to MOOT in August 2017. Exciting times lie ahead!

I was very proud to attend a Memorial Service and the unveiling of a plaque to commemorate the men from the Bradfield area who lost their lives in the First World War. The Scouts from our Jamboree Contingent and Horringer who were with me did well to stand for so long on what was a very hot day.

Our new building at Bradfield is looking very good and is on schedule to finish on time in October. This will give the campsite a real boost and of course will allow more Groups to have inside shelter. I attended the opening of the new Scout HQ at 1st Eye. What an impressive structure it is. The Group did a magnificent job to raise the money. The local community were most impressed.

I would like to welcome Gary Burden to the County team. Gary is now our new Safety Co-ordinator and as you can see from his profile, he comes with lots of experience. Welcome also to Heather Bridges and Sam Rowland who are joining the County Explorer team. Graham Baker has stepped down as County SAS Manager but will continue to oversee the SAS Re-dedication Service next month and the Annual Lunch next year. Graham has worked tirelessly to support the County SAS.

It was a privilege to present County Awards to Jane and Steve Leach from 1st Shotley and to Duncan Chenery from 1st Brantham.

On a very sad note David White died at the end of July. David had been the Group Scout Leader with the 14th Lowestoft for many years and had taken on the role of Local Training Manager for Lowestoft. He was an extraordinary man and he will be missed by all who knew him.

Don’t forget the County AGM will take place at St Edmunds Hall, Southwold on Thursday 25th September, 7:45 for 8pm. It will be a pleasure to see you there.

Happy Scouting

Jenny Mullan, County Commissioner
