A VERY Happy New Year to you all and I hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas.

What another fabulous year it has been for Scouting in Suffolk. There have been lots of highlights for me. The recent Carol Services always get me in the mood for Christmas. Was it only February when we selected the young people to go to the Jamboree? There have been so many memorable events with them. The Gala Dinner in November was just fantastic. I cannot speak highly enough of the whole team and I so look forward to seeing them all in Japan.

There was the Explorer Scout Conference; the Training Academies; the opening of the Boathouse at 1st Oulton Board; the Ipswich Gang Show; the Stowmarket Scout Show; meeting the youngsters who went on a leg of the Tall ships race; Wet Weekend; all the District and Group Camps……… I could go on.... What memories you have made. The new building at Bradfield began in May and is soon to be completed.

Among the Leaders who went Home were June Cullingford, Wolsey District. What a wonderful character she was. Also Jack Constable, Deben District and David White from Lowestoft, and Paul Ruthven from Bury St Edmunds. They all gave so much and touched the lives of so many, young and old alike.

Thank you all for your patience and support for Compass. I know it has been a challenge but it is getting better as the problems are resolved. As I write, the young people’s data is being put onto the system so thank you for that. If you need support please contact your DC who will put you in touch with your District Compass Champion.

I am pleased to announce that John Broad will take over the role of District Commissioner for Stowmarket District from Keith Thompson on 1st January. Keith has looked after the District for the past three years and has seen tremendous growth. He hasn’t been known as the ‘Guv’ner’ for nothing!

As we start a new year just remember the difference you make to the lives of the young. Thank you so much.

Once again a very Happy New Year to you all.

Jenny Mullan, County Commissioner
