IT’S fabulous to have the light nights and spring-like weather with us at last. The camping season will be in full swing soon and it is timely to remind you all of the Policy on alcohol Policy Organisation and Rules 2.4.d “During ‘off duty’ periods, adults in Scouting also need to take into account the effects alcohol can have and how it may affect their fitness to fulfil their Scouting duties. “Under no circumstances should young people under the age of 18 be allowed to consume alcohol during Scouting events.” Please do keep this in mind.

Our numbers dipped this year in the Annual Census and the County is 1% down on membership from last year. Some Districts did exceedingly well in spite of what has happened with Compass! Keith Gleen is busy with the Growth Certificates and I look forward to presenting them.

Scouting’s Got Talent, which was held in March, was a great success and we will certainly be holding it again in the future. Did you go to the Ipswich Gang Show? If not you missed a real treat. I know I say it every year, but this really was the best yet. It was so professional and had so much energy. The singing and dancing was phenomenal. I loved the Mini Gang - the youngsters displayed so much confidence. Thank you members of the Gang Show for giving so much time on stage and off stage to make the show such a success.

I am so pleased that so many of you are taking up the Ebola Challenge. I have just received the first batch of woggles and look forward to presenting them. I had great pleasure inpresenting Albert Newlands with the Silver Wolf. It was a quiet affair in Albert’s home as he is not able to get out and about as well as he used to. Albert is one of the unsung heroes of Scouting who has given so much over many years without recognition. If you believe you know someone who deserves an award, please send the details to your DC.

I am pleased to announce that Keith Thompson has joined the County Team as ACC General Duties. James Nunn has taken on an additional role as Queen’s Scout Co-ordinator and Graham Baker is back to look after the SAS. The new cabin at Bradfield has been accepted from DC Construction and will soon be ready for use. The cabin, which will be known as Constable Cabin, is a welcome addition to the Campsite. Personally I think it is fabulous and I hope you will also think so.

Lastly, I hope your St George’s Day Parades went well. Wolsey District was well attended and the Mayor was very impressed.
