Leading Scouting in the Waveney Valley District

Suffolk Scouts has a vacancy for the District Lead Volunteer in the Waveney Valley District. You do not need to live in the District nor do you need to be an existing member of Scouts to apply.

About the Waveney Valley District:

  • it spans over north Suffolk around the river Waveney bordering three of Suffolk’s other Scout Districts of Lowestoft, Stowmarket and Deben and sweeping round the northern most part of Suffolk where it adjoins Norfolk including but not limited to Beccles, Bungay, Earsham, Halesworth and Southwold and Reydon.
  • it comprises six Groups and three Explorer Scout Units, with an overall total uniformed membership currently standing at 413
  • it has 312 young people and 101 adult members in various leader roles (Census 2024)

Leading your District Team, you will focus on:

  • its direction and strategy ensuring an excellent programme is in place for the District and its Groups/Sections
  • working with your Lead Volunteers to ensure that new ways for delivering programmes are shared and implemented so top awards are earned by young people
  • advocating and supporting the Skills for Life work streams

You will know how and be able to motivate people, lead a team, produce plans and have the charisma to inspire other adult volunteers. Above all, you will believe passionately in Scouting for all, helping Scouting grow, to make it more inclusive, be more youth shaped and for its positive impact in the local communities in which it operates.

There will be full training for the role with mentoring and team building to support you in your new role. Applications/nominations must be received no later than midnight on Wednesday 20th November 2024.
