Dear All,
Please see below the messages from Howard Blackett (CC Suffolk Scouts) and Ian Newbery (Acting East of England Regional Commissioner)
From: Howard Blackett
I am delighted to let you know that Gary Burden has been appointed as the new County Lead Volunteer (CLV) for Suffolk Scouts. Gary and I will meet on Friday 6 December for a formal handover, and he will assume responsibility for the role with effect from Saturday 7 December.
Gary is a highly experienced scouter; he has volunteered in Suffolk Scouts for over 15 years, most recently as a Deputy District Commissioner and the County Safety Advisor. His previous roles include District Commissioner (Deben) and section assistant/leader at Scout and Explorer Scouts. These experiences give Gary a firm appreciation of the hard work and commitment our volunteers have, and the challenges they face.
I have very much enjoyed my time in office as the County Commissioner/County Lead Volunteer and I would like to thank all of you for your support and encouragement over the past three years – that goes, in particular, for the Board of Trustees, the County Leadership Team, our District Commissioners and my Deputy CC, Keith Barber, with whom I have worked very closely.
Scouting in Suffolk has recovered well post-Covid and is now in a strong position and I am confident that will continue to be the case. I wish all of you, and especially Gary Burden our new CLV, every success.
Yours faithfully,
Howard Blackett
(County Commissioner Suffolk Scouts)
From: Ian Newbery
As we welcome Gary into the role of leading Suffolk into the post transition era, I'd just like to record my thanks to Howard, who has been at the helm of the County during a particularly difficult period. I know that he will continue to support Gary as he picks up the role to ensure a smooth hand over.
Ian Newbery
