Ben Seaman who is in Lowestoft District, will join the Programmme Team and take on the relatively new role of 14-24 Lead which pulls together the Explorer and Network sections.
Each of them have provided a short biography that you can read below. We wish them well in their new roles!
Gary Burden
County Lead
I started scouting when I was six years old as a Beaver and went through Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and I am a part of the Bury District Network . While I was at Explorers, I was a young leader at 1st Horringer scout group which is my local group where I was a scout. I am currently a section assistant at my scout group.
When I was a Scout, I went to Holland with Cubs to help out. I was also fortunate enough to be apart of the 25WSJ to South Korea. I have also been on a few CMAT trips to the Peak District and to Scotland.
Having been a Scout in Suffolk, since joining as a Beaver at the 6th Bury, I am looking forward to taking on my new role of joint County Youth Lead. I have enjoyed the Chief Scout Awards, CMAT trips, being a Young Leader and taking part in numerous camps. My first international camp was to Holland as a Cub and more recently I was lucky enough to go to the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea. I look forward to meeting you all, around the county.
I’m excited to take on the role of County Programme Lead 14–24 for Suffolk Scouts, supporting Explorer Scouts, Young Leaders, Scout Network, and everyone who helps make opportunities possible for young people across the county. I’ve been part of Scouting for just over 10 years and have successfully run a Cub section since 2019, which has given me first-hand experience of how rewarding it is to see young people grow and develop skills for life.
In this new role, my aim is to strengthen the 14–24 programme by building connections, sharing best practice, and ensuring every young person has the chance to thrive and enjoy great adventures. I’m looking forward to working with volunteers and young people alike to shape a supportive, engaging, and future-focused programme for Suffolk Scouts
