It has been quite a while since my last ramblings.  My apologies for that as I know a lot of you like to know what I’ve been up to. I have been so very busy with lots of meetings so there were not that many interesting things to report on.  However, now that the sun has started to shine we are getting out and about again. I have had a couple of super weekends.....

First was the Sudbury District Sudboree at Boxford.  The Campfire was magical with the glow sticks in the dark.  I was so proud to present Karen Rafel and Pat Pitcher with the Medal of Merit; both have given exceptional service over many years. Second was the 31st/9th Ipswich AGM which was well attended by Leaders and parents.  Heather Bridges is doing a fantastic job as GSL.  The way the Group is going, it will be the biggest in the County soon. Another proud moment for me was when I presented two very dedicated Leaders with the Silver Acorn.

The Sea Scouts of the 13th Ipswich did us proud with their bake off at their AGM. Such a smart Troop, and the pizza was yummy. I presented their GSL, Max Raffe, with the Bar to the Silver Acorn for continued exceptional service to Scouting; another proud moment.

Last Saturday I was at Herringfleet for the annual re-opening ceremony for the campsite together with the District Scouts and Explorer Scouts competition. The District planted a tree in memory of the late Lord Somerleyton and the present Lord Somerleyton was there to say a few words. The rain held off thank goodness although it was rather chilly. Another presentation, this time the Silver Acorn to the District Commissioner, Tony Hawkswoth. To all of you who know Tony he is someone who doesn’t give up and is an example to us all.

Then on to Haughley Park for Stowmarket District Scout Camp.   Leigh Foster led a fantastic Camp fire and the rain held off until we were all safely in the Cabin.

Bear Grylls said we are all ordinary people but because some give that bit extra it makes them extraordinary. I have once more met lots of extraordinary people who give so much to Scouting in Suffolk.
