Last month I was invited to their Annual Firework Display by Orwell District. It was held at Hallowtree. What a fabulous, fun night! This was a real family affair. It reminded me of a village fair, with lots of stalls, each one set up by a different Group. I was asked to judge the pumpkins and the fancy dress – not an easy task. The standard was high for both, with everybody joining in the spirit of the evening. It was good to see so many parents along with their children.

Nov 5th - Christchurch Park – 11th Ipswich Fireworks Display – my first time attending. This was a full scale festival with all sorts of activities in place – giant waterballs, young people in inflatable body armour jousting in a ring- that must be what they call safe agression. They certainly had lots of fun and the spectators enjoyed the spectacle. The Mobile Display Unit from HQ was there, manned by members of the Scout Network. We may not have recruited many people but there was no doubt it provided a gathering point for Scouting on the evening. The centre piece was of course the firework display. This is something I won't forget in a hurry. The noise, the music, the colours, the smoke. It all went to make it an unforgettable evening. Well done to 11th Ipswich for their hard work.

On 7th November I attended the Hadleigh Sea Scout Group's production of Biggles Scouts About. The show was a resounding success. Missing was Jonathan Moore, their Group Chairman, playright and budding actor. His son, Adam stood in at short notice as Peter Lorre (that won't mean much to the younger members but the rest of us remember the Maltese Falcon). Well done, Winston, alias Barry Dallas. I shall look at you in an entirely different light in future. Suffice to say that the young men and women, and the older folk involved acted their socks off. Well done to everyone including the back stage crew. Being a luvvie myself, I absolutely loved the production.

I am off to 1st Carlton Colville later in the month to present my 4Cs woggles to the Cub Scouts. There is still time to get a challenge in before the end of the year. Mark Murphy of Radio Suffolk is very interested in earning one of the woggles, so if you have anything planned, let me know and we will see if he can join you.

Take care and have fun.
