treemendous-badge140 Beavers and Cubs from Deben district took part in a TREE-MENDOUS DAY at Hallowtree Scout Camp site on 13th October, the day after Bear Grylls visited Suffolk.

To create a sustainable forest of trees and hedges the children planted out about 60 trees over the site as well as creating a willow arbour.  420 trees are coming next week from the Woodland Trust to be planted in our tree nursery set up by Lyn and Graham Parker so they will be ready to plant out on site next year.

The event organised by Tina Vickers, Helena Mecrow and David Wardley was a huge success and promises to be an on-going project at other Scout camp sites in the county.

Julian Dean and cubs from the district planted an English Oak in memory of Patti Thirlwell a much loved assistant district commissioner for cubs in Deben district who died suddenly last year. Patti will be remembered for her enthusiasm for scouting And her great sense of fun.
