The Swallows and Amazons series of story books by Arthur Ransome were inspired by locations he knew - the River Orwell was one when he moved to this area after being in the Lake District along with own small sailing boat - The Nancy Blackett - known as Goblin in the books.
You can get a flavour of these adventure stories by taking part in the free activity days that are on offer from the trust that looks after the boat at the Pin Mill Sailing Club at the Woolverstone Marina.
